THE WHOLE PRICING MODEL

One rate. One minimum.
Half hours after that.

There are no tiers, no membership, no priority plan and no diamond level service agreement. Ron charges for his time at one rate, and materials are what materials cost.

The one hour minimum exists because driving out, parking, carrying tools in and diagnosing the problem takes real time whether the repair itself takes five minutes or fifty. After that first hour, billing is in half hours, so a job that runs an hour and ten minutes is billed at an hour and a half rather than rounded up to two.

What we never do. No dispatch fee. No trip charge. No fuel surcharge. No diagnostic fee that gets waived if you agree to the work on the spot, which is just a pressure tactic with a nicer name. No card held to secure a booking.

REALISTIC RANGES

What common jobs actually come to.

HOW TO READ ANY PLUMBING QUOTE

Five questions worth asking.

Ask us these. Ask the next company these. If the answers are vague, that is information.

  1. Is that the total, or does it become the total after a technician assesses it? A number that only exists after somebody is in your house is not a quote.
  2. Is there a trip charge, dispatch fee or diagnostic fee on top? And is the diagnostic fee waived if you say yes on the day? If so, that is a pressure device.
  3. Does it include the permit? For water heaters and gas work in California, it needs one.
  4. Who is actually doing the work? And will they be the person who quoted it?
  5. What happens if it turns out to be worse than expected? The answer should be that they stop and talk to you, not that they carry on and present a bigger bill.

Materials are charged at what they cost. There is no markup hidden in the fittings.

The agreement, in plain words

When you book, you tick a box confirming you understand the hourly rate, that materials are additional and shown to you first, and that payment is due once the work is finished. That is the entire contract. There is nothing else to sign and nothing gets taken up front.

Pricing questions

Because the drive, the parking, carrying tools in and working out what is actually wrong takes real time regardless of how long the repair itself takes. Charging fifteen minutes for a job that occupied ninety minutes of the day is not sustainable for a one van business. The trade off is that the rate is the same at midnight on a Sunday as it is on a Tuesday morning.
The free thirty minute consultation covers looking at the job and telling you what it needs and what it will cost. It is not free diagnostic work. Something that requires putting a camera down a line, pressure testing a system or locating a slab leak is chargeable work, because that is the job rather than the quote for it.
Card, check or bank transfer, and payment is due when the work is finished. We do not take a deposit, we do not hold a card to secure a booking, and nobody will ask you to sign anything before the job starts beyond the rate agreement on the booking form.
No. A booked Saturday appointment is the same rate as a Tuesday. There are four of them and they need to be booked in advance, so they do go early in the week.
Ron stops and tells you. You get the new picture and you decide whether to carry on. What will not happen is discovering a much larger number at the end. Occasionally a job needs a second visit because a part has to be ordered, and in that case you pay for the time spent, not for a second minimum.
Labor is guaranteed for twelve months from the date of the work. Parts and fixtures carry whatever warranty the manufacturer offers, which varies enormously, and we will tell you what it is before it goes in. If something we did fails inside the year, we come back and there is no charge.

Now you know the price.

Pick a time that suits you. No deposit, no card, and you pay when the job is finished.
